About the US Open
The US Open traces its history to 1881 and has grown into one of the biggest events in world tennis.
Since 1978, the tournament has been played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York. Its main stadium, Arthur Ashe Stadium, is the largest tennis stadium in the world and provides the setting for many of the tournament's biggest matches.
The US Open is the last of the four Grand Slam tournaments each season, following the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
Played on hard courts at the end of the North American summer season, the tournament is known for energetic New York crowds, night sessions and matches that can continue deep into the evening.
The women's singles championship features a 128-player main draw, with seven rounds separating the opening day from the championship.
