WTA Toronto 2026 Roundup | Day 3
The big names began arriving on court Tuesday as second-round action got underway at the National Bank Open in Toronto.
With the top 32 seeds receiving first-round byes, Day 3 brought the first look at several leading contenders — and Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys all made successful starts.
There was drama elsewhere, including a marathon battle for Elina Svitolina and an early exit for Jelena Ostapenko.
Sabalenka Opens With a Straight-Sets Win
Aryna Sabalenka def. Moyuka Uchijima — 6–3, 6–3
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka began her Toronto campaign without needing a deciding set.
Uchijima had earned her opportunity against the world No. 1 by advancing through the opening round, but Sabalenka proved too strong, taking both sets 6–3.
It was a composed opening performance from the tournament’s top seed as she moved safely into the third round.
Swiatek Cruises Past Bejlek
Iga Swiatek def. Sara Bejlek — 6–0, 6–3
Iga Swiatek made an even faster start.
The No. 7 seed raced through the opening set without dropping a game before Sara Bejlek offered more resistance in the second.
Swiatek nevertheless completed a comfortable 6–0, 6–3 victory to move into Round 3.

Keys Makes Quick Work of Ruzic
Madison Keys def. Antonia Ruzic — 6–1, 6–2
Madison Keys produced one of Tuesday’s most convincing performances.
Ruzic had battled through the opening round to earn the meeting, but Keys immediately imposed herself and surrendered only three games in a 6–1, 6–2 victory.
For Keys, it was about as efficient an opening match as she could have wanted.

Svitolina Survives a Marathon
Elina Svitolina def. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro — 6–7(5), 7–6(4), 6–4
Not everybody had such a straightforward afternoon.
Elina Svitolina was pushed all the way by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in one of the day’s longest and most competitive encounters.
Bouzas took the opening set in a tiebreak before Svitolina responded by winning another tiebreak in the second.
The Ukrainian finally secured the deciding set 6–4 to complete the comeback and keep her Toronto campaign alive.

Zhang Advances as Ostapenko Retires
Zhang Shuai def. Jelena Ostapenko — 6–0, 4–0 ret.
Jelena Ostapenko’s Toronto campaign came to an early end against Zhang Shuai.
Zhang dominated the opening set 6–0 and had established a 4–0 advantage in the second before Ostapenko retired from the match.
Zhang therefore advances to the third round.
Other Day 3 Results
Tuesday’s second-round action also produced plenty of movement elsewhere in the draw.
Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated Camila Osorio 6–3, 7–6(4), while Viktorija Golubic came from behind to eliminate Donna Vekic 5–7, 6–2, 6–3.
Diana Shnaider advanced past Rebecca Sramkova 6–2, 4–6, 6–1, Marta Kostyuk defeated Canadian Katherine Sebov 7–6(4), 6–0, and Anna Kalinskaya survived McCartney Kessler 6–2, 6–7(3), 6–4. The official Toronto draw records the full slate of second-round results.
More Seeds Are Coming
Day 3 only covered the first half of the second round.
Wednesday brings another group of leading players onto court — and that’s particularly interesting for our watchlist.
Alex Eala, Leylah Fernandez, Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva are among the players whose Toronto campaigns are set to get underway as Round 2 continues.
Young qualifier Alina Korneeva is also still alive in the draw after advancing through qualifying and the opening round.
The National Bank Open is starting to take shape.
